Helen Bednarek, age 93, of Batavia, IL, formerly of Elburn, passed away surrounded by the love and prayers of her family, Sunday, September 19, 2021.

She was born April 1, 1928, in Chicago, IL, to proud and loving parents, Adalbert and Karolina (Kuznar) Fulara.

Helen grew up in a seven flat with four rooms, in Chicago and attended local schools. She graduated with the class of 1944 from St. Josaphat’s School.

February 3, 1951, was one for the books when she and Stan Bednarek walked hand in hand down the aisle and would make 50 years of memories before Stan went home to be with the Lord in 2001. They began their new life together in Chicago until 1976 when they moved to near Elburn.

Helen did some office work for a time before moving on to A&P. Later she would work at The Little Traveler in Geneva, IL before her retirement.

Helen’s pride and joy was her family. She spent her life caring for others, making sure they had everything they would ever need. She was generous to a fault and her heart was always open to love and ever closed to hate. Helen was the first to pick up the phone and check in on her children, grandchildren, family and friends, gabbing about anything and everything. Her friendships were easy, but steadfast, and nary a day would go by without her adding to the list of her “family of friends”. Helen had a sweet and loving soul that touched many lives, lives that will never be the same without her.

She is survived by her four children: Carol (Richard) Lacey, Kenneth (Joanne) Bednarek, Allen (Janet) Bednarek and Glenn (Wendy) Bednarek; eight grandchildren: Michael Lacey, Janelle Lacey Stefanski, Robert (Shannon) Lacey, Christopher Bednarek, Daniel Bednarek, Caitlyn Bednarek, Liliana Bednarek, David Bednarek; one great-grandchild, Sierra Lacey; two brothers: Casey and Joseph Fulara; many nieces, nephews and a great family of friends that span the countryside.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Adalbert and Karolina (Kuznar) Fulara; her husband Stanley Bednarek; her siblings: John Fulara, Mary Wojcik, Anna Makarewicz, and Andrew Fulara,
