MONICA M. NASHAge 25 of El Mirage, AZ, formerly of Sandwich, IL, died unexpectedly, Sunday, September 19, 2004At Arrowhead Hospital, Glendale, AZ where she had just begun chemotherapy for acute leukemia. She was born December 6, 1978 in Aurora, IL where she attended West Aurora High School and made her home for several years. Monica became a mother at an early age and, with her own mother’s help, grew to become a great mom herself. Monica had a heart of gold, a "mind-of-her-own" and a will to match. If you were down on your luck, her last nickel was yours before you even asked. Though her time on this earth was short, she lived each day to the fullest and gave of herself completely to friends and loved ones. Her spirit for adventure and zest for life earned her the nick name "drama queen". Ever the consummate party planner, Monica made sure that birthdays, anniversaries and everyday good-times were "over the top" with surprises. In 2001, she took a few days off in Arizona. "September 11" happened and her get-away vacation turned into a new life. In recent months she began working at the Desert Palms restaurant where patrons and staff quickly came to love her. Their support continued when she was stricken with acute Leukemia and hospitalized for highly aggressive treatment. She fought with the fierce determination that was the "fire" of her whole life. Shortly before her death, on the strength of loved one’s prayers and her own sheer will, she put on her party-face one more time, sat up in her hospital bed and celebrated her daughter’s second birthday in a way that none will ever forget.
