Phyllis E. LaMonica, age 98 of Elburn, IL, passed from this life to eternal life on July 15, 2013 at her home.Phyllis was born August 15, 1915, in Peoria, Il the daughter of Dr. Frederick and Odessa (Hicks) Causey. Phyllis grew up in Peoria where she graduated with the class of 1933 from the Academy of Our Lady. She went on to attend Wright Jr. College in Chicago, where she studied physical education. During one of her shifts as a life guard at the college pool, a young gentleman by the name of Philip LaMonica, came in for a swim. Phyllis knew right at that moment he was the man of her dreams. On July 10, 1937 they were united in marriage at the Presentation Catholic Church, Chicago.Phyllis worked at Sears & Roebuck Company and Brach’s Candies, but the love of her life was her husband, her home and family. A spirited woman who gave herself to life completely, she remained undaunted when her son John was born with Praeder-Willi Syndrome. Throwing herself into his life and the lives of others, she used her education and knowledge of swimming to help at the school where John attended and she made their home a special place to meet his needs.Phyllis, Philip and their four children made their home in Chicago all of their lives until 1990 when Philip and Phyllis moved to Elburn. In 1996 Phyllis lost the love of her life Philip.MEMBERSHIPS (organizational names and cities of location, positions held and/or devotion to any church, fraternal, professional or political organization)She was a longtime member of St. Gall’s Altar Society. She especially enjoyed needle point and painting figurines. She also enjoyed playing the organ for her own enjoyment and passed many hours that way. Many of nieces and nephews and a family of friends in Chicago, and the Elburn area.She now joins her beloved husband Philip LaMonica, her sons John LaMonica and Philip LaMonica, Jr., her brother, Laun Causey a sisters-in-law Annabelle Causey and Rose Nixon and a brother-in-law Robert Nixon.VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be Friday July 19, 2013 from 9-9:45 at St. Gall Catholic Church, 120 W. Shannon St., Elburn. A funeral mass celebrating her faith will begin at 10am at the church, with Fr. Tim Seigel celebrating. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside at 1pm. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name to benefit St.Gall Catholic Church or the charity of your choice. Memorial check may be made out to "St. Gall Catholic Church " and mailed in care to P.O. Box 8049, Elburn, IL 60119. Visitation will be Friday July 19, 2013 from 9-9:45 at St. Gall Catholic Church, 120 W. Shannon St., Elburn. A funeral mass celebrating her faith will begin at 10am at the church, with Fr. Tim Seigel celebrating.
