Christopher Hollis Lay, of Maple Park, passed away May 1, 2012 following a long illness. BORN: Christopher was born April 12, 1928 in Washington County, KY to W.C. and Isa Mae (Adkinson) Lay. EARLY YEARS:He attended local schools in Mackville, KY. MARRIAGE: In 1944 Christopher met the love of his life Gloretta when his brother married her sister. Before long the two were united in marriage on March 16, 1948 in Harrodsburg, KY. They would spend the next 64 years by each others side.RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: They made their home in Harrodsburg the next four years before making their big move to Northern Illinois. In 1957 they made their home in the Elburn/ Maple Park area. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY:Throughout the years Christopher worked various jobs. He worked for Elburn Packing where he "fat cattled" before he was given the opportunity to become a welder for National Electronics. His welding career continued when Richardson Electronics took over. He continued his work with Richardson before retiring in 1993. LIFE NOTES: If you frequented St. Charles Bowling Alley, you often found Christopher bowling whether he was leading his league to a win or just enjoying a game of bowling with his family. If Christopher was not bowling you could find him in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, turtles, frogs or sinking a few worms to catch some catfish or bluegill. Regardless of what his catch was, it would always feed his family. If he wasn’t out hunting or fishing, he would be out tending to the flowers in his garden. He also enjoyed listening to classic Country and Gospel music. SURVIVORS: His loving wife Glo;his daughter Peggy (Dennis) Wogen of Malta;his son Rick (Cathy) Lay of Maple Park;daughter-in-law Ursula Lay of Dallas, TX;11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren;1 brother and 3 sisters all of KY; Many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.PRECEDED:His parents, 3 sisters, 6 brothers, 2 grandchildren, and one son, Larry.VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be held Saturday May 5, 2012 from 9-11am at Conley Funeral Home 116 West Pierce St. A funeral service celebrating Christopher’s life will take place after visitation at 11:30am with burial following at Gardner Cemetery in Maple Park. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in Christopher’s name to benefit the Maple Park Family Fund: Checks may be made to the "Maple Park Family Fund" and mailed in care of The Lay Family at P.O. Visitation will be held Saturday May 5, 2012 from 9-11am at Conley Funeral Home 116 West Pierce St. A funeral service celebrating Christopher’s life will take place after visitation at 11:30am.

Interment will follow the service at Gardner Cemetery
