Larry Snyder, age 69, of Maple Park, passed away unexpectedly, Friday May 1, 2020. Gone before saying goodbye, Larry leaves a legacy of love and a trove of memories to cherish.
He was born January 11, 1951, in DeKalb County, IL, to proud parents, Morton and Shirley (Theis) Snyder.
Larry grew up Maple Park and attended local schools. He graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 1969.
Following graduation, Larry continued the family tradition of farming. He also worked in factories, as a brick layer and more, but woodworking is what spoke to his heart. He spent many years building with steady hands and an expert eye. Retirement never really entered Larry’s mind, and although he left woodworking in his past, Larry continued to tend the family fields of his youth.
Larry met his future wife, Leanne Harmon at a wedding of all places. Both looking their best with love in the air, you could hardly picture a better place for a love story to begin. As their fates intertwined, their two paths become one when they were united in marriage September 6, 1975 at St. Gall Catholic Church in Elburn. They began their new life together in Maple Park and never left, making a life and family in his hometown.
Larry was a unique man with a specific plan and vision. There was a reason for everything he did, season after season. Spring and fall brought out the farmer in him, but when Christmas time came around, you could find an extra twinkle in his eye. He wasn’t outgoing per se, but the friendships he made were friendships for life. Larry did not catch the travel bug often, the exception being treasured fishing trips to Canada. He preferred to be close to home and spending as much time in Mother Nature as he could. Puttering was his forte, finding out how things worked and how to fix them. His hands were rarely idle and were always busy with a project or three. Larry may not have been the easiest to work with, but the results were flawless and nothing was less than perfect. In recent years he took pride in his culinary accomplishments, and the family took pride in eating them. The love for his family was fierce and he always had a special place in his heart for his son, daughter-in-law and especially his beloved granddaughter. He will never be forgotten and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Leanne Snyder; his son, Keith (Erica) Snyder, their daughter Charlotte, with another blessing just months away; four siblings: Bob Snyder, Dan (Yvonne) Snyder, Bill (Sharon) Snyder and one sister, Barb Giese; his mother Shirley Snyder and many nieces, nephews, cousins and countryside of friends.
He is preceded in his death by his father, Morton Snyder.
Private family services have already been held. A celebration of life will follow when all his family and friends can gather together once again.
